What if I donated in the past?

If you've donated to support Movable Type in the past, you should have received a Recently Updated key for each $20 you've donated. In appreciation of your support, we're granting a full $20 credit for each Recently Updated key entered during purchase, and your second Recently Updated key will be credited for $25.

What license is right for me?

If you're just getting started with Movable Type, or you know that you'll be having fewer than five authors contributing to your site, you'll want to purchase the [Personal Edition] license, which includes support. With the [Unlimited Personal Edition], you're free to create weblogs for as many authors as you wish, so it's the right choice for serious bloggers or those who don't want to have to keep track of their system.

What counts as an author?

An author is an individual with a unique login name generated by Movable Type via the "Add/Edit Weblog Authors" function who has logged in within the prior 90 days. The sharing of an individual login name for more than one person is prohibited.

What counts as a weblog?

Any active web site, consisting of one or more blogs, that appears at a single URL which has had a new post created or edited in the past 90 days counts as a weblog for your Movable Type license.

Do I qualify as a "Personal User?"

If you're an individual whose blogs don't support a commercial endeavor, you can use the Personal Use license. (Incidental revenue such as Google AdSense, Amazon Associates fees, PayPal tip jars, or other similar programs which aren't the main purpose of the site are allowed under the personal license.)

Is there a limit on weblogs?

Your commercial license places no restrictions on the number of weblogs you can create.

What if I have an earlier license?

If you have purchased a commercial license for Movable Type in the past, we'll be glad to grant you a full $150 credit for towards the purchase of a new license as thanks for your support. To apply this credit, you'll need the PayPal transaction ID for your commercial license purchase.

What counts as a user?

"User" means one individual with a unique login name generated by the Software via the "Add/Edit Weblog Authors" function of the Software who has logged in within the prior 90 days. An individual whose employment with your organization has been terminated and who will no longer be using the Software does not count as a User, even if such User has logged in within the prior 90 days. The sharing of an individual login name for more than one person is prohibited.

What if I don't fit these licenses?

Custom licensing is available, either on a per-seat or per-site basis. Get in touch and we'll be glad to work with you to define an appropriate license.

Can I offer Movable Type hosting?

Custom licenses for Internet service providers interested in hosting Movable Type for their customers are available. Simply contact us for more information.

Can I charge for my services?

You may charge for services and support provided to any Movable Type user who has acquired a valid license for their usage of the system.

The educational license permits use only by current students, faculty, and administration. You can contact us for information on a license for hosting alumni weblogs.

What is a user?

What do I get with the paid license?

The paid license adds support directly from Six Apart for your use of Movable Type.

What is considered a paid employee?

A full time employee is a paid staff member working how on average works 35 or more hours a week and being paid at least minimum wage as defined by the State of employment. A full time equivalent is any number of part time employees who in aggregate work an average of 35 hour or more and are paid at least minimum wage as defined by the State of employment.

What organizations are not-for-profit?

Community organizations, registered non-profit organizations (such as 501c3), religious groups, and service organizations which operate on a not-for-profit basis are all eligible for the not-for-profit license.
